Your biggest war will always be the thoughts between your two ears. The very thoughts which are not from God. Fear driven thoughts that try to justify your past, make you feel insecure, or consume you with trying to micromanage each aspect of your life with the goal to control your future. God is Sovereign. Your ability to have peace in your mind is directly related to your ability to trust God loves you, has a good plan for your life, and is with you in each moment of your life whether the moments are triumphant, ordinary, or absolutely heart breaking. We were not promised a life without pain; however, we have been promised by God, “He will never leave you or forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5)
These thoughts will torment you when you lay down at night, when you are alone, when you are quiet, or even when others are talking directly to you. These thoughts are the vary war within your soul. The Bible is clear, “For as a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” (Proverbs 23:7A)
You are loved and adored by the God of the Universe. (John 3:16) You are not a victim and whatever you are facing is not new. “No temptation [regardless of its source] has overtaken or enticed you that is not common to human experience [nor is any temptation unusual or beyond human resistance]; but God is faithful [to His word—He is compassionate and trustworthy], and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability [to resist], but along with the temptation He [has in the past and is now and] will [always] provide the way out as well, so that you will be able to endure it [without yielding, and will overcome temptation with joy].”(I Corinthians 10:13)
Every single aspect of your life is directly related to your thought life. Whether you realize it or not, you alone hold the power to align your thoughts with the thoughts of God. What I am suggesting is not easy, but so worth the effort. You will need to pay attention to your thoughts and exchange them for the thoughts God has about the situation. For instance, if you think “I can NOT do this or that.” You are 100 % correct – you cannot do it! But remember what God has told you in scripture, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13) God is with you and you are able to do whatever you are facing. You are not alone. (Joshua 1:9)
You are the master of every thought which you allow in your mind. You have the ability to think anything you desire. Your thoughts are directly related to your peace, ability to love others, health, and life in every single aspect. Choosing to know scripture and exchanging your thoughts for what God says about you and to you will bring you life abundantly but will require you to pay attention to your thoughts, know God’s word, and exchange your thoughts for God’s promises and divine will. It is work, but yields life, joy, love, and peace. You are stronger than you even know.
“The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:4-6)
Practical Suggestion: Read one chapter in the book of Proverbs daily. There are 31 chapters in Proverbs, so you may easily read one chapter for each day in the month. For instance on the third day of the month, read chapter 3 in Proverbs. As you repeat reading Proverbs each month, the scriptures will become a part of your thought process and empower you in your daily walk.
